Helmets are cool! - Wear your Helmet!

Mr. Wally, from Bicycle Hub, visited the children of Marlboro Montessori and gave “Great Safety Tips” on how to make the biking season safe and enjoyable during the summer season.

As the warm weather approaches, we’ll see more bicycles out in the community. Every bicyclist needs the protection of a good bicycle helmet. Of course, a helmet can’t keep a bicyclist from falling. But it can cut the chances of serious injury.

We can make bicycling safer for all by observing the following safety tips:

Always wear a helmet
Obey all traffic controls
Ride your bicycle near the right-hand edge of the road
Never carry another person on your bicycle
Always use hand signals when turning or stopping
Look out for cars at cross street, driveways, and parking places
Be careful when checking traffic and don’t swerve when looking over your shoulder
Give pedestrians the right-of-way
Keep your bicycle in good condition
Always ride carefully

*Check your child’s bike is the proper size. A bike that is too big or too small will be hard to control.

*Check reflector on the front and rear of the bike. The rear one should be red and should be at least three inches across.

*Check the reflector is pointed straight back to reflect the headlights of cars coming up behind your child.

*Check the bike’s chain to make sure it is clean and lubricated.

*Check your child’s brakes for even pressure.

Pre-Graduation Party at Marlboro Montessori Academy.

9 eggs from Quiver Farms have hatched so far! Students learned the importance of nurturing an egg and providing a safe environment. The eggs were kept warm and rotated every few hours; what a great lesson in responsibility and nature study!

We have invited a farmer from Quiver Farms to bring 12 eggs, an incubator and a brood box tomorrow, April 20, 2010! Check back for updates on our egg’s progress. Students will get the chance to see how a chick hatches from an egg right in their own classrooms.

Spring School Projects

Spring has sprung at the Marlboro Montessori Academy. Our green, grassy caterpillar friends were a great practical life exercise. Patience is learned while watching grass grow. Believe me, the students became very aware of timing for things to grow…from seeds to sunshine and water…and at last, lots of green grass!! Great idea Miss Holly. Thank you.

On St. Patrick’s Day 2010 the students’ of Miss. Collette’s class were very excited to find that a few Leprechauns visited their classroom.

A Letter from an Alumni Student

To whom it may concern,

I was a student in your school eight years ago. I am writing to compliment you on my wonderful experience when I was there.

Even though it was a long time ago, I never forgot how much fun I had there. The school was made to look like a house from the inside out, which made me feel very comfortable. I remembered playing a lot of games and learning math in my kindergarten class. I will also never forget my teachers who had been nothing but nice to me, especially my kindergarten teacher, Ms. Coleen. I was always excited to go to Montessori everyday and I miss everyone there.

Thank you for you time and consideration. I hope you continue running the school the way you did when I was there and I hope to bring my children to this school someday.

SweetHeart Night Update

It appears Mother Nature is not cooperating with us and another snow storm is headed our way on Monday night into Tuesday morning. We don’t want to break any little hearts; therefore, we are postponing our annual event until the springtime.

Our rescheduled date is Tuesday, March 23rd, at 6:30 pm.

On Wednesday, February 16th, our students received a special presentation by Dr. Sapna Patla, Periodontist and Implant Specialist. Dr. Patla presented the students with “Dudley’s Classroom Adventure”, in which ”Dudley the Dinosaur” prepared a report on healthy smiles. In the presentation following the video tape, students learned about the importance of keeping their teeth clean and having a proper diet. Dr. Patla also discussed mouth guards and dental sealants.

Dr. Patla concluded the presentation by giving this piece of advice to all of us, ” By taking good care of your own teeth, you serve as a role model for you child. It’s not difficult to help children establish a good oral health routine at an early age. In fact, this may provide your child with some measure of “smile insurance” for years to come.”

Each student received a goodie bag filled with a toothbrush and toothpaste!
